Venting path

Venting is a passive protection method. It relieves pressure to a safe location. You typically pair it with isolation when connected equipment could transmit flame or pressure.

You choose venting OR active suppression as the primary approach for the same hazard. Not both.

Active suppression path

Active suppression detects a developing event and discharges suppressant to stop or reduce the explosion. You often pair it with isolation to protect connected equipment.

You choose active suppression OR venting as the primary approach for the same hazard. Not both.

Isolation path

Isolation is used to stop flame and pressure from travelling through ducting or piping to other vessels. It can be a standalone objective, or it can be added to venting or suppression.

If you already know you need venting or suppression, go back and choose one of those paths, then add isolation.
